— Good Evening Europe! (@GEEurope_blog) October 4, 2020
At the end, a total of 12 people voted in at least one of the three shows — thank you for those of you who did! — and not a single of our nul pointers got nul points again in any of the three shows.
Below is the final scoreboard for the Grand Final:
At the end, voters crowned Spain’s 1983 entry ¿Quién maneja mi barca? by Remedios Amaya as the best nul pointer and the one most deserving of getting points. Congratulations to Remedios as well as Seyal Tanner & Lokomotif and Portugal’s Célia Lawson whose entries complete the top 3 in this second chance contest of ours.
Semifinal results
As for the semifinals, while the results of Semifinal 2 have been consistent with the final placings, the relationship between Semifinal 1 and the Grand Final have been quite peculiar.
In a situation akin to the 2nd Semifinal of Eurovision 2018, we see that many of the qualifiers from this semifinal have went on to fill the right side of the scoreboard in the final. This is despite the fact that there are more qualifiers (given this show’s format), which means that voters overall preferred the songs in this semifinal than the other.
Also interestingly, because the way the “televote” is decided is different from the regular jury vote, we see that a handful of entries that did not do as well in the Semifinal 1 jury vote managed to become wildcard qualifiers, with 16th-placed Een speeldos qualifying being a prime example.
Final thoughts
It was really interesting to see how people voted. Songs that one may not have expected to do well or even qualify defied all odds, while some songs that seemed like favourites stayed in the semifinals instead.
It seems that most people can agree that Switzerland’s “Celebrate”, unfortunately, deserved the nul points.
While this is the first event we’ve organised on this blog, it is far from the last. Thank you to everyone who has followed along this journey, and stay tuned for our upcoming projects!
